ECHA SCIP Database Prototype Webinar (2020)

Summary of ECHA SCIP Database Prototype Webinar (2020)

On 17th March, ECHA held a webinar where they introdcued the SCIP database prototype. With more than 250 people listening in, the webinar was very well attended. The prototype of the SCIP database was released a month ago to allow duty holders to familiarize themselves with the process of preparing and submitting dossiers in a test environment.

Familiarize Yourself with the Notification Process

The practical implementation of the notification process was demonstrated with a prototype of the SCIP database. All steps, from the preparation of data and generation of the dossier file in the IUCLID Cloud to the submission of the dossier via the ECHA Submission Portal were shown.

ECHA encouraged duty holders to set up their access to the SCIP database prototype and create and submit test dossiers for their articles and complex objects. By doing so, they can become adequately prepared to fulfill their upcoming legal obligations starting 5th of January 2021. All data submitted to the SCIP database prototype is considered test data. With the release of the productive SCIP database, which is planned for October 2020, duty holders will then be able to submit legally relevant data.

Benefits of System-To-System Communication

In the webinar, ECHA elaborated on the information requirements that come with the SCIP database. Discussing the notification process for SCIP, ECHA highlighted the benefits of utilizing a system-to-system communication approach for companies with a large number of notifications that need to be updated frequently. Lots of questions were asked, which shows the great interest in the topic.
