Swiss Authorities Enforce Product Notifications

Are your hazardous products placed on the Swiss market registered to the Swiss Product Register for Chemicals (RPC)? If not, it's time to take action! Similar to the EU poison center notifications, a unique formula identifier (UFI) is required for Switzerland.

Some of our customers recently reported that, during audits, authorities have been checking the compliance of products submitted to the Swiss Product Register for Chemicals (RPC).

Submissions to the Swiss Product Register for Chemicals must be done at least 3 months after first placement of a hazardous product as defined in the Swiss Chemicals Ordinance (ChemO article 48).

Since 2022, the unique formula identifier (UFI) has been introduced in Switzerland to reliably identify chemical products and their composition. This allows advisors at Tox Info Suisse to quickly identify chemical products, assess their composition, and recommend appropriate measures.

Chemical preparations, biocidal products, and fertilizers classified as hazardous due to their health or physical effects must have a UFI. The UFI must be reported to the RPC and displayed on the product.

Be aware that the transitional period ends on December 31, 2025. Preparations intended for:

  • Professional users and
  • Private users, if placed on the market before January 1, 2022,

will require a UFI starting January 1, 2026.
